Shift & Gemini's Basic Foundry VTT Journal Reader
Welcome!
Easily view and navigate your exported Foundry VTT journal entries directly in your browser. Just drag & drop your journal.json file (or click to select) to display its content.
This client-side tool allows for offline viewing and ensures your journal data remains private and local.
Disclaimer: This tool is not affiliated with Foundry Gaming LLC and is intended for personal use only.
Important Notes:
To view images, you may need to provide your FoundryVTT Instance URL.
Images hosted on your Foundry instance will not display without this URL, and your instance must be online/available
for them to load. Other journal content should be accessible without the URL.
The Foundry Instance URL is the base address you use to access your game. Examples include:
To confirm your URL, try opening it directly in your web browser; if the Foundry interface loads, it's correct. The tool will automatically adjust common session URLs (e.g., containing `/join`, `/game`, or `/setup`) to the correct base URL for you.
If your Foundry instance is running on a subdirectory (e.g., `https://www.yourdomain.com/foundry/`), make sure to include that in the URL. If it is hosted on a different port (e.g., `https://www.yourdomain.com:30000/`), include the port number as well.
